UCF continued its overall team growth this weekend, as the Knights had their bright spots on both offense and defense during Saturday’s scrimmage.
The Knights impressed a crowd of 200-plus during Saturday's scrimmage. The offense and defense both had their moments, with big plays on both sides of the ball. On Sunday, they practiced indoors in shells.
During the scrimmage,
Rob Calabrese
looked sharp. He led the team to 2 red zone trips. One trip was cut short by a near-interception in the endzone, but Calabrese made up for it on the next drive by leading the team to a score.
"I think we have a quarterback that can help us win this year" said O'Leary . "Rob has much more fieldmanship than last year."
On Sunday, Calabrese looked even better, leading the team to a would-be score on a deep pass to
Rocky Ross
during a two-minute drill.
A couple of freshmen shined over the weekend as well, especially defensive back
A.J. Bouye
. Bouye was seen with the first and second team defense as well as the special teams unit.
O'Leary seemed pleased in Bouye's performance. "A.J. has been a real surprise out there. He's a great technique guy."
Big play of the weekend: On Sunday,
Brian Watters
dropped a pass from Rob Calabrese that was right on the numbers. A few plays later, Watters went deep and made a beautiful diving catch from
Joe Weatherford
that put the offense in scoring position.
