Great Day for Knights Baseball

The Knights baseball season has left much more to be desired of late, but they finally found a way to win Wednesday. The Knights defeated UNF in impressive fashion 8-2.
Lines like “What we need to focus on is the process and not the results,” and “we are short in a few areas, but the kids keep doing what they can,” have become all to familiar to those associated with
UCF
baseball. However, they rarely come with a 8-2 victory. The Knights play hard every night but rarely generate results.
On “April Fools Day” though, they actually looked the part of a complete team. It is no secret that the problem is pitching and skipper Terry Rooney has found a solution, more pitchers. Rooney sent out eight different pitchers Wednesday despite several solid performances. Starter Kyle Sweat was the only man to go multiple frames, and he pitched two solid innings.
The win ended a nasty 10-game snide that included multiple 26-run games, and a double header in which the Knights got mercy-ruled twice. To say the Knights needed a win would have been a vast understatement, but the complete domination that took place, was pleasantly unexpected.
“It feels good,” stated star catcher/outfielder Brandon Romans. “We were on a bad streak there but it feels good to win there.”
The game featured both Colin Arnold and Shane Brown extending their hitting streaks. Arnold’s is now at 11 games, while Brown’s increased to an impressive 18 games. Brown also hit the Knights lone home run of the game, as he went 4-5 with three runs and two RBI. He is now hitting .380 on the season and has teamed up with Brandon Romans to make a dynamic duo in the middle of UCF’s offense.
The Knights will look to continue their good fortune this weekend in a three game series at
Memphis
. Memphis is one of the weaker teams in conference and the Knights will try to build on the success found on April Fools. The Knights next home series will be April 10th versus
Tulane
.
