Bortles Likes What He Sees
"I told Coach Collins that I was going to be a little late. I went to a combine in Orlando on Saturday and I didn't get out until one or two. I called Coach Collins and he said that they were wrapping things, but he wanted me to come over anyways."
Bortles has seen the UCF campus before, but he finally had the opportunity to see some behind-the-scenes aspects of UCF's program.
"I got there and I toured the campus with Coach Rubio. They showed me the Wayne Densch Center. The weight room and locker rooms were beautiful."
The Oviedo (Fla.) product also was able to pick the brain of UCF's new offensive coordinator, Charlie Taaffe.
"I met Taaffe and that was nice. He said he wanted to open up the offense some. I know about what he did at Maryland and I like that he might spread things out."
If the Knights do go out of the shotgun more frequently, that would certainly benefit Bortles, who excelled in the spread-offense last year for Coach Allen at Oviedo.
Currently, Bortles and the Lions are in the heart of baseball season and as an outfielder, he has helped the team get off to a 5-2 start (as of March 8th. ) Although he will be busy with baseball and spring football when it starts, he plans on making the five-minute drive to UCF during the team's next Junior Day, which will be the first weekend of April.
