With rumors about George O’Leary’s job status firing across message boards all over the World Wide Web, Tuesday’s press conference gave everyone some clarity into UCF’s coaching situation.

O’Leary first felt the heat this year after Ereck Plancher passed away during a workout this season. Speculation on how Plancher died and inaccuracies in medical reports started controversy and seemingly damaged the team.

This stigma hung over the team’s head and seemingly ruined chemistry. Combine that with an inexperienced offensive line and it was a recipe for disaster.

UCF finished at with disappointing 4-8 record this season after winning the Conference USA championship last year, which certainly wasn’t what O’Leary expected.

Despite a down year, O’Leary’s track record at UCF validates him earning at least a year to turn things around. In his five years at UCF, O’Leary has taken the team to two conference championship games, helped develop Kevin Smith into a consensus All-American and was vital in bringing Bright House Networks Stadium onto UCF’s campus. With this resume, O’Leary has shown that he can get things done with the Knights and should be able to rebound next year with all but five starters returning.

"There's some unfinished business that I have to do before I leave here," stated Coach O'Leary.

While anything can still happen, it appears O’Leary will be given another chance to bring the Knights back to the pinnacle of the C-USA.
