It was an enormously productive Sunday for the sometimes troubled, but full-time talented Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Marshall, making his first start of the season following a one-game personal conduct suspension, put on a whale of a performance as he caught 18 passes, a new Broncos record, and the second-highest total in NFL history.

Marshall’s 18 catch, 166 yard day helped his Denver Broncos defeat the visiting San Diego Chargers, 39-38 in one of the most exciting games that anyone will ever see.

Even though Marshall had a nearly once in a lifetime performance, his impact without the football was nearly as important as that he made with those 18 receptions. On the Broncos final play from scrimmage, down 38-31, Brandon Marshall occupied much of the Chargers defensive attention which allowed quarterback Jay Cutler to connect with wide receiver Eddie Royal in the middle of the end zone. Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan decided to go for two and the win, and Cutler hit Royal on an almost identical play for the go-ahead score.

Shanahan described his decision as, "sometimes you have to go with your gut."

Another former UCF Knight, kicker Matt Prater hit on his only field goal attempt for the Broncos, a 52-yard attempt, and made all four of his extra point attempts. Prater is a perfect 3/3 on the season in field goal attempts, perfect on extra point attempts, and has three touchbacks.
