ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A spokesman for the University of Central Florida says a football player has died after participating in offseason conditioning drills on campus.

Ereck Plancher, a freshman wide receiver from Naples, Fla., was pronounced dead shortly before noon Tuesday at a hospital, says school spokesman Joe Hornstein.

Hornstein says Plancher apparently took a knee during conditioning at the school in Orlando, Fla. He became unresponsive and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, Hornstein said.

The school was scheduled to begin spring practice Wednesday.
