Yesterday around
5 p.m. coach Dave Huxtable received a phone call that he has been
waiting for. Josh Sitton called to inform coach Huxtable that he wants to be a
Golden Knight. Later that night, Sitton got an unexpected call from UCF. Head
coach George O’Leary was at the other end of the line.
Sitton also made some phone
calls himself. He called UAB and
Auburn
to notify them that he’s not coming. “I had two visits, to UAB and Auburn,
setup this weekend but I cancelled those,” said Sitton.
When I asked Sitton to sum up
his visit to UCF over the weekend, Sitton had one word to describe the entire
trip; “unbelievable”. The word unbelievable seems to come out of his mouth
repeatedly, and I don’t blame him. “The facility there is unbelievable.
Everything from football to everything else,” said Sitton. Was Sitton
impressed with UCF? You better believe it. He enjoyed seeing the Academic
Village and the Wellness Center, “like everything else, it’s unbelievable. They
built the new indoor facility and all that. They got a bunch of new stuffs but
I really didn’t think they needed. I was really impressed. They really
dedicate a lot of time, effort, and money to football right now so it’s really
good.”
So what are some of the
reasons Sitton wants to commit UCF? “It just feels right. The people, the
city, the campus, the school and everything, I feel like I’m going to fit in
down there,” said Sitton. “I want to play. I don’t want to wait two or three
years and I think I have a pretty good chance to play pretty early there so
that’s a really big thing for me.”
When asked of his impression
on coach O’Leary, Sitton has the utmost respect for the head coach. “I like
him, I really do. He’s a great guy. He’s a funny guy too. He got a great
sense of humor. He seems like a really genuine guy,” said Sitton.
He’s not sure what to study
at UCF but he certainly picks the right majors. “I’m not a thundered percent
sure right now, but anywhere in business, maybe, communication or maybe
education-sports. I want to be a coach someday.”
