Kevin Patterson will make a three hour trip to
Orlando
this weekend. Patterson once
thought UCF had dropped him from their radar, but now there is a mutual
interest. The old coaching staff
recruited Patterson sparely and rarely did they contact him. UCF old coaching staff called Patterson
early in the season, then for some reason the phone rings went silent. "I got a couple of calls but I haven't
heard from them for a while," said Patterson. After the change of the coaching staff,
Patterson saw a big difference.
"The last couple of weeks they’ve recruited me really hard." UCF linebacker coach Dave Huxtable is
the main contact with UCF.
Patterson talks to coach Huxtable very often and he has finally received
what he was looking for. "They
offer me last week."
Patterson
is a 5-11, 171 pound CB from Kingsland,
GA.
who is a quick defensive back and has a good height. However, Patterson’s classroom
performance is what really got O'Leary's attention on this cornerback. He scored a 950 on the SAT and a 3.3
GPA. Thus, Patterson most concern
during his official visit is, you guess it, academic. "I'll take a look at the academic side,"
says Patterson. "I'll ask about the
graduation rate because most schools that recruiting me they all have a high
graduation rate." Patterson does
not want to make his decision solely on football. Rather, he wants to have a balance of
academic and football. "I'm going
to try to get the better of both worlds," said Patterson.
Location,
location, and location. The
foremost thing that Patterson likes about UCF is its location. "I know that Central Florida is in Orlando,
and it's close to home," said Patterson.
"It's only a three hour drive from here, so I like that," continued
Patterson. Schools that Patterson
looks at are at least five to six hours of driving time. Patterson likes the idea of staying
close to home, which probably is the main reason why Patterson is very
interested in UCF. "I'm going to
keep my eyes on them because they're so close to home. That's the main thing right
now."
Patterson
boasts of offers from Ole Miss and UCF. Patterson favorite schools are Wake Forest, Ole Miss, UCF, and Duke. He had three official visits to
Vanderbilt, Duke, and Wake Forest.
After this weekend Patterson isn't sure if he will visit Ole Miss. "If I have a good time this weekend,
it'll probably be my last trip," said Patterson.
So,
is Patterson going to commit after this weekend trip?
Patterson
won't make a decision right now, but if everything went well after the visit at
UCF then he will decide.
After
this weekend’s visit, Patterson will decide on whether to commit or to continue
on his official visit at Ole Miss next weekend.
He
has not had a chance to talk to coach O'Leary yet, but he's very impressed with
the head coach. "I've heard good
things about him and he's a good coach," said Patterson. "I think he's a winner wherever he
goes," Patterson added.
Accompanying
Patterson on his official visit to UCF is Djay Jones.
Jones is Patterson's teammate who also has an offer from UCF. So does Jones have an offer and is he
taking an official visit to UCF too?
"Yes, he has an offer. I
believe that he does too," said Patterson.
