Morris
Inching Closer
Casey Morris took one more step closer to
joining an exclusive club at Texas Tech, the 1,000-point club.
Morris, who led the Lady Raiders in scoring
with 13 points on Sunday, now has 988 career points. Tech’s next game is
against Oklahoma State on Wednesday in Stillwater with first tip set for 7 p.m.
Non-conference
Success
For yet another season, the Lady Raiders
found success in non-conference play.
Tech registered only two losses, falling to
New Mexico on November 15, 65-61, and then in overtime to Michigan State,
50-48.
In every victory in non-conference play,
the Lady Raiders defense stood tall allowing 56 points or less in every win.
Tech, in the past four seasons, has gone
now 47-5 in non-conference play and has now won 48 consecutive home
non-conference games.
Baker
Continuing Hot Streak
Junior Kelsi Baker for the third-straight
game went for double-digits in scoring, dropping 10 points against the Cougars
on Sunday inside the USA.
It also marks the 8th game out
of the last 10 where Baker has gone for more than 10 points. The only two games
where she failed to reach the double-digit plateau was against Northern
Colorado and Lipscomb, one point and nine points, respectively.
Four’s
Company
Texas Tech has four players reach
double-digits on Sunday, Morris (13), Hyde (12), Brown (11) and Baker (10).
This marks the first time the Lady Raiders
have had more than three different players reach the double-digit mark in the
same game since December 5, when Tech beat Illinois 75-56 inside the USA.
Solid
Shooting
The Lady Raiders finished the game shooting
52.7% from the field and also finished the second half shooting 60.7% from the
field.
It marks the first time the Lady Raiders
have hit more than 60 percent of their shots in a half since shooting 65.2%
from the field in the first half against Northern Colorado on December 16.
It also marks the first time the Lady
Raiders have shot above 50 percent from the field since November 24, when Tech
shot 56.4% from the field for the game against Nicholls. Those are the only two
times; the Lady Raiders have accomplished that feat this season.
Here
Comes Conference
Now the Lady Raiders head into the hardest
part of their schedule as Texas Tech travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma on
Wednesday to take on No. 14/13 Oklahoma State to open conference play.
Tech opened conference play last season
against Oklahoma State inside the United Spirit Arena and walked away with a
58-53 victory.
Entering conference play, the Big 12 has
five teams in the Top 25 in the Associated Press Poll - Baylor (3), Oklahoma
State (14), Oklahoma (18), Texas (20) and Kansas (22).
